In One Month....

I will graduate.
Even as I type the final few chapters of my thesis, I am not unsure, I am full of confidence. I've always thought that after I grad, it will be a time of uncertainty, but there is not a trace of uncertainty now, not one.
When I serve the True and Living God,there is not a moment of worry. He literally drops things into my lap, things I don't even know I want.El-shaddai is the provider of my needs.
What do I mean:
In a season when most of my friends are typing resumes and signing up for interviews, I have not witten one word.
Jesus knows the desires of my heart. It is to continue studying.
So this is what He does-
He , through my TSF FGA pastor offers me a 6 month internship in the church office.*Yay*So I start in June of this year, and end in November. Why is this so unique, so timely?
1)Because Rancangan Malaysia 9 just got announced this morning. Thus far, almost none of my lecturers can take any post-grad students because their previous grants have run out(they're broke). They need to wait for R.M.9 to be announced, send in their project proposals, get approval, get the money, then they can take in students. This will take until the end of this year.
Which is when I'll end my internship in church, and get back to uni life.Probably in the end of December or January.
2)The internship lets me stay in Serdang, I'll be near UPM, which will allow me to settle any convo issues, AND more importantly, keep in contact with my potential supervisor who'll help me prepare a project proposal that I have to hand in as part of my post-grad application.
3) I've always wanted to give my first few months post degree doing something for the Lord. Here it is.

And I still haven't written a single word of resume.

Heart, We will forget him.

Heart! We will forget him!
You and I -- tonight!
You may forget the warmth he gave --
I will forget the light!

When you have done, pray tell me
That I may straight begin!
Haste! lest while you're lagging
I remember him!
-Emily Dickinson

Heart, does thou hear?It is like she says. Let us begin now, even though it will only bring temporary relief to the reignited memories. Let us start, you and I , so that our agony be released.

The Heart Asks Pleasure First

The heart asks pleasure first,
And then, excuse from pain;
And then, those little anodynes
That deaden suffering,

And then, to go to sleep;
And then, if it should be
The will of its Inquisitor,
The liberty to die.
-Emily Dickinson

Emily Dickinson is one of my favourite poets, mainly because I seem to relate to most of the things she writes. She is most comfortable in the subjects of death and loneliness, and pain. She write them not with a sense of depression, but with melancholy.Observe... melancholy without depression. Emily Dickinson captures this element with powerful grace and fluidity. She writes about death as if it were the genial old lady next door, in whose presence she could relax and be herself, yet whom she also holds with awe and respect. So she neither embraces suffering, not welcomes it. She is neither distant from it nor too close. She is just....comfortable that its there. During her lifetime, she lived in total physical seclusion from the world, her only contacts were letters and the occasional visitors.Ironically , many of us today are not physically secluded from other people, but we feel the same loneliness.

Another Boring Post

Yeah.Nothing remotely interesting ever happens in my life, primarily because:
Love life = Drama/Emo-ness
No love life = No Drama.
Anyway, in the past few weeks, I turned 23, fell sick from a sress-induced infection, experienced the true meaning of overwork and FINALLY completed my project all in a span of 5 days.
I just completed a test about 2 hours ago, and another one in the morning before that.Morning was Virology with Prof. Khaty, a semi open book test.Made a few mistakes. Apparently shingles is a complication of Chicken Pox NOT measles. The night paper was Lipid metabolism. Almost fell asleep completing the 80 objective questions Prof. Noraini set.

Things to look forward to:
1) What: Faculty night
When: Sunday 19th March 2006
Where: DePalma Hotel
Why: Get to hang out with my close friends and see Caroline in a Saree. Also get a ubiquitous award.Everybody seems to be getting one.

2) What: Korean Movie Screening
When: 12 march, Sunday
Where: Jung Sen Saeng Nim's TaeKwonDO centre.
Why: Bref, c'est un film de Korea quoi!

3) What : Extreme Saturday
When: 18th March, Saturday
Where: Full Gospel Assembly, KL.
Why: Closing of the True Love Waits campaign that started with Valentine's night banquet. Altered Frequency performing.

Currently listening to: DiDo's Life for Rent
Favourite song: Sand in my shoes.

Note: Symbols of the French culture includes le coq( the cock, symbolizing the french people's colourful and daring personality), le TGV(Train a Grande Vitesse, like LRT),houte couture(literally high fashion), Marianne(like the statue of Liberty, mother of France and her ideology),le croissant,le vin(wine is cheaper than water in France), la tour Eiffel,le baguette, le champagne et le camembert.

Je veux reposer dans Votre bras.
Dans Votre bras d'amour.
Mais,j'ai trop de souci.
Trop de problemes.
Aidez- moi, Signeur.

I'm on the Right Track

You Should Learn French

C'est super! You appreciate the finer things in life... wine, art, cheese, love affairs.
You are definitely a Parisian at heart. You just need your tongue to catch up...

Vous etes vrai, c'est super.
At least I'm doing SOMETHING right.

You Are Pumpkin Pie

You're the perfect combo of uniqueness and quality
Those who like you are looking for something (someone!) special

Call me Pumpkin Pie!

My Lab Was Robbed

Dear Lord,
Two days ago my lab got robbed, but of course You already know that. The person who did it must have been pretty deperate. Why do I say this? because who in their right mind wants to rob a laboratory? What can you steal-lah? Sodium Permanganate?Potato Dextrose Agar? NaOH?
But Lord, I must thank You that not too much was was stolen(only Sabil's not too new handphone and Emma's bagpack which contained only her matric card). Too bad I wasn't there to witness it.
Thanks for making French mid-sem quite okay. I knew Madame would set some bombastic-worded passage for comprehension. I just thank you that this time it wasn't so bad. But I still dunno why Lucie was "stupefait". Was it because her friend gave her "deux bissous" or because the appartement was too small?
I think I also screwed up the matching answer-quetion one. I didn't know that << Pourquoi est-ce que vous etes jete vote montre?>> meant "Why did you throw your watch away?". I thought it meant why is the party so cheap? hahaha.Anyway the correct answer was "Parce que elle n'est pas marchait", "Because It's not running."
You know the dilemma I'm in now.I put my future in Your hands. I know that if I do Your will, I'll always end up exactly where You want me to be, doing exactly what You want me to do.This is part of the proof:

Your Career Type: Investigative

You are precise, scientific, and intellectual.
Your talents lie in understanding and solving math and science problems.

You would make an excellent:

Architect - Biologist - Chemist
Dentist - Electrical Technician - Mathematician
Medical Technician - Meteorologist - Pharmacist
Physician - Surveyor - Veterinarian

The worst career options for your are enterprising careers, like lawyer or real estate agent.

I've come to realise that this is what I want in life, to give.I'm sorta sick of thinking about myself all the time. It's time to wke up, and look around, the harvest is plentiful but the labourers are few.Ask the Lord of the harvest....................

Miscellaneous Blogstuffs

Bonjour.

Just posting a bit of leftover pics from here, there and everywhere.Firstly is a pix that was taken at my ex-room mate ,Shirina's convo. She was a real good room mate.Very patient and maternal.Anyway, she's now a  biology teacher in her hometown of Mukah, Sarawak.
Image hosting by Photobucket
Shirina in robe and mortar-board, with all the gifts from her fans.

Remember I said I was taking Korean as an elective? Part of the grade comes from us joining this week-end  culture/reading club thingee organized by my lecturer, Ps. Jung. The following pix were taken at the first session (Jan 21st), where I got to try on a hanbok(korean traditional dress) and learned the art of Korean bowing(melutut ,not memanah)

Me and Ps. Jung's daughter, Grace.

The Korean flag is on my right. The club is held in my lecturer's TaeKwanDo centre, that explains the other flag.So now you can sorta figure out that my Sir is a lecturer, TaeKwanDo instructor and ordained Pastor. Talk about multi-tasking!

Swept up in Hallyu

Happy Chinese New Year to all my peeps.
Have been on Non-paid leave from blog because:
1)Plenty Tests (last one on Friday 27/1/06)
2)Went Home after tests for CNY
3)Home has no streamyx
4) Only dial-up
5)Dial-up slow.
6)Too lazy to dial-up.Behind is too heavy. *cough*. Not to mention annoying high pitched noises when dialing.

NEways, CNY was a quiet affair with a lot of Coca-Cola,and Korean Drama VCDs. Which I like, but have no patience to complete. So I take the easy way out: Fast forward and skip all even numbered VCDs.So I managed to complete in 4 days:
1. The Sad Love Story-20 VCDs.Corny title, monotonous story line, but got Kwon Sang Woo inside, which means *watch anyway*.

2. The Road Home -korean movie(not series) which is different because it has no romance. About the relationship btw a boy and his mute grandmother.

3.Divine love - Average Korean movie.Again with cutie Kwon Sang Woo.This time he's a Catholic priest wannabe, who...well ,I can't reveal the ending.Suffice to say that it involves a girl.

4.Windswept- Korean movie.Watched this on TV. Verdict:Boring. Will appeal to people who want their boyfriends turned into wind when/if he dies, and follow them around everywhere as moving air. What a kinky concept.Pour moi, I'd rather have my privacy.

5.Friends (not the Central Perk one)-Collaboration drama between Japan and Korea, with Kyoko Fukada and Won Bin.No chemistry.Proly cos they both dun understand what the other is saying.

6.Pride and Prejudice-English movie. Liked it.Loved it.Was very faithful to Jane Austen's book.Casting very well done.

Etc.

Returned to campus on Saturday February 4th.
Serdang house is chock full of cookies and mandarin oranges.
Evening went to church.
Then dinner with UPM gang at Kuchai Entrepeneur Park.I had KimChi Ramen.

Sunday, went to visit sick friend in Hospital Serdang.Very fancy-smancy, stylo-mylo and hi-tec-by-tec for a government hospital.Building was very modern-scmodern,and UPM's new medic fac is around it.
Tried making a batch of Kim Chi myself. Not bad.Quite easy.Taste a bit like HumChoy.

Monday,Found out that Korean teacher Jung SongSaeNim is actually a Pastor(Presbytarian).Read finish online novel:The Society fot the Betterment of Mankind by Jennifer L. Armstrong.

That's it.
SaturdaynightisTSF'sValentinesBanquet.Havetowearniceniceandgo.

Note:Hallyu or Han ryu means Korean Wave.

Microbiology Portrait

My final year coursemates and I posed for some formal photographs late last year, and these are some of the shots. I only managed to get the digitalized form this morning, from Beth's laptop. The pictures were taken by a professional company, who charged us RM12 for an A4 sized picture, with our names, faculty, course and the university logo printed on it.

Image hosting by Photobucket
An informal shot, with the guys trying to be funny. Beside me is my best friend Caroline.

Image hosting by Photobucket
Another unrehearsed shot. I like this one because everyone is unprepared and spontaneous.

Image hosting by Photobucket
The real formal shot. I'm not hard to spot.My friend Hidayah is in the front row(sitting) showing off her strappy heels. Asilah and Akmal are 2nd and 3rd from left in the front row. Hunny Bunny is 2nd from right in front row( one of those rare moments she's not in Jeans and T-shirt) and Caroline is beside me. Emma, love guru extraodinaire, is top row ,extreme right. These are my closest in the course.

Misty Wet Weekends

Two Crazy weekends in a row. What a joyride!
First of, H20(Tsf water carnival)last Sunday(8/1/06):-
Awesome. I was preparing for it from New Year's Day. At first, lots of people just weren't keen on the idea.Partly because of their own this and that, partly because Ikatan Kristian UPM's Annual General Meeting fell on the same day, albeit at night.I was so worried no one will turn up and no one will sign up for games etc.
I guess I need to trust God more. I was saying to Him after a few dissapointing replies that-- Lord, You are the one that brings people, not us. We may speak/cajole/ blackmail them into coming but truly You are the one that changes their hearts. And guess what? on D-Day itself, a whole busload of UPMers turned up with their friends!
The whole preparation business itself was exiting. The Saturday before, we had service and TSF as usual(with Ps. Daniel sharing on C.o.S.T., the tSF vision/theme).Stayed back quite late for a whole load of announcements on H20 and the Upm retreat (which I just came back from). Finally reached home at 11.00pm and straight went to bed.
Next morning, woke up at 5.50 am and proceeded to pick the game stall volunteers up from their colleges/ homes. We had to be there by 7.00am, hence the early thingee. A miracle was none of us overslept. All punctual.Even Andrew didn't need me to wake him up, he was up even before I miscalled. After that, drove to Bukit Jalil family park following the sketchy map by Timothy(thanks), and almost went astray when Anne and Andrew argued about one particular turning(I didin't bother, just turn only).Anyway, finally got there and put the stall up,then Yee Leng and gang appeared.Games finally began at 10.00am and all was Fun, Fun ,Fun! from then on.Several highlights:
- Amy dancing Sumazau during dance competition(penguin, penguin)
-Joseph Raj getting dunked in the dunking machine.( by Wei Xin, no less)
-Deric soaking me through by pouring a pailful of water on me ( and others, he got taruh later-lah, haha)
-Ps Daniel getting floured, egg-ed and wormed in the dunking machine.
-all the new people we met.(Especially this Bryan fella who kept on scoring full marks at the stall i was doing)
-Green curry on meehoon, which was part of eating competition.
- A GIRL won the tough challenge, which was tough!( Doreen was in it too. You Go, DOng!)
All in all, many showed up, and at the end of the day, to God be the glory. And of course the comittee deserve an applause too( Esther and gang rocks!)AT night, even though we were tired, we went for AGM.Again another miracle, we managed to fulfill the quorum.

In between the weekend:
Monday night- Campus CG in Cheryl's K2 room. There were 11 of us, and strawberry tea with cookies for supper after.
Tuesday night- Surprise birthday party for Joseph,we UPMers drove to his house in Tmn Sri Sentosa , and the rest is history. Thanks to Mel and Lake(TSF's hottest new couple) for organizing this.
Wednesday night- Prayer meeting in church.
Thurs- Met a group of Koreans that my Korean language Sir brought from his former church in Busan. My sir is a Christian see(presbytarian).Anyway , the team that were mostly kids came and sang/danced/talked with us.I had a one on one during lunch( we were to take them out for lunch) with Kim Sung Hee Seongsangnim who was one of the few adults there. She was in her 40s, and I found out from Jung sir that she was a leader in the Ladies fellowship in their Busan church which has about 40,000 people. She was so happy that I was a believer too, that both of us cried/laughed and hugged each other at the cafe itself.Apart from that, I learned a Korean blessing song, and some pronounciation.

This weekend Just Past:
Last Friday: The DAY for TSF UPM retreat has arrived.Gathered at KMR bus stop at 7.30pm with fellow TSF UPMers and some friends.Had dinner and took the bus up to Peacehaven, Genting Highlands. Arrived at about 10.00pm, had a short briefing by Amy(Yay, Amy, camp commandant extraordinaire). Then retired to our rooms/dorms. I shared a room with Mel, Dong, Yee Leng(Curly) and Wendy. Later, Amelia too.Hung out with these ppl plus Lake, Joseph and Eunice until about 1 a.m., then went to bed.

Saturday: Was woken up by Mel and Dong's squeling/gigles (they were attcking each other on the double bed, and then proceeded to attack Yee Leng who was on top of the bunk) at 7.00 am.Had breakfast, and a session with Ps. Chiew Har (Yc leaders were there too) who spoke on positioning ourselves to see Christ. Afternoon Games were fun, each group had to eat 500g of biscuits, celery with cencaluk, and Kopi-o with no sugar.Fastest group wins.Next was newspaper dress-up/cat walk. All the models were really good( Gina, striptease?!!What?)After that, a group of us went up to Genting Theme park, First world Hotel area. None of us went in to the outdoor theme park because it was expensive(RM 37, mahal siut!)and because of time. Amy, Wendy and me bought teh tarik(RM3?!!)/milo and sat down sipping it at First World plaza. We walked around, and bought some unique things not found on level ground.(It rhymes!). At night, Joseph shared on the early church. After supper, a bunch of us went outside and hung out in the cold until about 1 am. when amy herded us all in.Amy herself came to my room and hung out until 2 am. We were singing crazy/funny songs like Curly's "ONe Way....Ticket". and Chin Chia Ho, Pai xin Ya so chin chia ho in english.

Sunday(This Morning): Ps. Mike Raj spoke on remembering why we are here. After that, lots of picture taking, and revealing our Angel/Mortal identities.then back down to earth! and reality!
Retreat Highlites:
- God
-Caroline came!
-Eugene and Moses dressing up as girls.
-Celery in cencaluk
-Korean chocolate
-Amy dancing her famous sumazau dance/stumbling into rooms/lameness/etc.
-Doreen switching of lights because she doesn't want to change in the toilet.
-All the speakers!
That's all. Now it's back to the drudgery of exams, test, quizes and projects!

Liz and Jason's Children

Their firstborn, Sean, astride his toy horse Napolean.

Their newest addition, Aidan.Born on the19th of December 2005 .Wonder what izzit with Liz, Jason and Scottish names?

Elizabeth Teh nee Heng is a long time friend of mine and her children really mean something unique to me. It means I'm no longer a kid.I'm officially an adult. You see, I've known Liz since I was a baby(well, maybe not that early) but as early as I can remember I've known Liz. I have a yellowish photo of her at my first birthday. Back when the photo was taken, Liz was still in primary school, and I was a toddler hanging on at her knee. Now, 20+ years later, we're still friends, and she's the proud mother of two beautiful sons. I got to know her husband Jason when I was in primary school, and they were already in secondary.

I know also that her children mean a lot to her, because of her difficulty in having them. Now they're here.  Congratulations Liz, and *hugz*.

Help! I seem to have lost a year!

Tomorrow is the last day of 2005.Where did all that time go? It's not under the carpet, not in my closet and definitely not under the bed.I've lost it.Completely lost it. Man...

Plans now stand as such:
Tomorrow-Finish literature review for thesis,go for watchnight service in church, and TSF countdown.
New Year's Day- sleep late,Type Lit. review,Print Lit review.
2nd January- To church again to paint props for Tsf water carnival(called H20).Happening on the 8th at Bukit Jalil Family Park( all invited).

No fun.Boring,boring,boring.(Except maybe the TSF countdown)*sigh*
My fault anyway. The lit review thingee was actually due last semester. But nevermind, 85% of my other coursemates also haven't passed up their's.Haha.
Oh, I have another assignment as well.:Constructing an icosahedral model of a T4 bacteriophage virus for virology class(taught by everyone's favourite Prof.- Dr. Khaty).I'll do that later.Dunno when-lah.Just later.
Semester started last Tuesday, after christmas.Took me THREE AND A HALF hours to drive back to Serdang from Melaka. Most of the time I was stuck behind this ugly brown truck.Almost fell asleep.
Christmas was nice, but quiet. On the eve of Christmas eve Mum, Sam and me went to the graveyard and repainted Joshua's headstone where all the golden engravings were washed away with age,as well as cleaning up Dad's and Gong gong's graves. On Christmas eve, My bro and me went to Portuguese settlement(10m from home) to look at the lights and stuff. We bought sparklers, which the both of us haven't touched since we were kids.Mum ordered Portuguese Chicken Pie, and that was super good.
On Christmas day, there was Curry Devil, Roasted chicken and mixed veg. from the same portuguese aunty who made the pies.Food, food, food.

Anyway, This is my LAST SEMESTER.I'm taking Virology,Lipid Metabolism, Korean 1 and French 3.

For now, It's back to my lit review on soy sauce and tempeh.

Tis' Christmas

Time to celebrate the small things.
The faithful friends, the ones you keep and the ones you lose. The ones you learn to love again, and the ones who'll persist in remembering you.
The family within four walls.
The material and the immaterial.
The smooth and rocky path that brought me here.
For when the BIG is taken away, all that's left to do is celebrate the small.
And when I do,I find, the small things matter most.

I celebrate my insecurities, for it makes me dependent on You , O Lord.
I celebrate Love in difficult times.
But most of all,I celebrate You.

When it Rains

Many times has it been quoted, that when misfortune comes, it comes in torrents.Like waters.Help me.

Mum and Sam came down last Wednesday, and stayed til Friday.I bunked in with them at The Summer Inn Hotel in Serdang Perdana, alternating between the lab and the hotel. It was a much needed emotional rest for all of us, after what the family has been through these past months.Went shopping in South City Plaza, but other than that not much.We stayed a lot in the hotel room and talked.
Was so depressed when I had to send them off to PuduRaya to catch a bus back to Melaka. But life goes on, and work helps me keep my mind off missing home.

On Sunday morning, I lost a friend.A sudden death until now not convincingly explained and the details are null.He was still okay when finals started. We can't understand. Why.
The realities of what we have read in our textbooks are now proving real, we begin to feel the pinch of what was only in theory, now affecting us in reality.
A curse on you, Pneumococcus pneumophila
for taking my friend away.

In Memoriam

Chan Wee Lee
(07.07.1983- 04.12.2005)
B.Sc(H)-Biochemistry, 3rd Year
Universiti Putra Malaysia

Was called home to the Lord on Sunday morning, in his hometown of Sibu, Sarawak due to heart failure.

"When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true:"Death has been swallowed up in victory."
Where, O death is your victory?
Where, O death is yout sting?"

-1 Corinthians 15:54,55

Loyal friend and ardent student, even to the end.Deeply missed by his friends ,in our labs and our hearts.
